Look out ! Hidden behind the title of this article is a deep and meaningful analogy. Not only are we going to talk about learning French in your car, but we are also going to discuss how car design and testing can give amazing insights into your success in learning French. Is that deep and meaningful, or what !
First things first. Before talking about marketing, testing and manufacturing of cars, let’s get down to the basics. If you are like many other people, you spend an inordinate amount of time in your car. Under the condition that you can continue to drive carefully and responsibly, the opportunity to learn French using CDs, cassettes, MP3 files etc. is available to you now. You can listen to your first French words being spoken, refresh those school French lessons from long ago and try out your pronunciation and your ability to respond to questions.
Which leads us to our first analogy with cars. How to market cars, or rather how to market your French. Marketing is figuring out what people want and getting a solution together that answers that want. Translation : you personally are the market for the French you want to learn, so take a moment to figure out what you want to take away from your French learning experience. Then choose a French course that will give you the most help to do that.
Next up is testing. Once you have some vocabulary and phrases under control, it’s time for a road test. After all, you want to make sure that what you are learning is going to meet your requirements, so test with exercises, speaking your responses to questions and where possible in conversation with someone else who speaks French.
And manufacturing. Got your French language components ready? It’s time to bolt them together and speak whole meaningful French sentences. Vary your production to speak different sentences in different situations while using the same components of the French language.
Just a word of advice. Although this wonderful analogy can help you get ahead in French both inside and outside of your car, there is one aspect which you may want to avoid. Crash tests. With or without dummies. Need I say more?
