The key to photography is to be able to represent true life but also to emphasize the personality of the subject. Often times dull pictures kill the personality, but here are some advanced lighting tips to help you liven up your photographs.
1: Understanding Broad Lighting and Short Lighting
Broad lighting is when the main light is toward the side of the face that is facing towards the camera. It isn't as popular as short lighting because of the flattening effect it has on the subject. Short lighting is when the main light illuminates the side of the face that is turned away from the camera. More of the details and contours of the face are emphasized this way and in addition it has a narrowing effect on the face.

When choosing a camera, it may not be necessary to pay the big bucks for a camera with the highest megapixel rating. Most people just don’t need that much power in a camera.
Is ‘megapixel’ the most overused word in the language of digital photography?
Tell anyone you are thinking of buying a new digital camera, and the first question they will probably ask you is “How many megapixels does it have?” In my gallery I often overhear comments like “I would love to take better photos, but my camera doesn’t have enough megapixels.”

Just as music builds mood, colors can also help create mood. A lot has been written on what each color denotes, what emotions it evokes. Colors also have an impact on one’s health. Did you ever think that the colors in a photograph can actually make someone look at it over and over again or probably turn-off the viewer. In fact the colors in photographs can set the pace and mood of your surroundings and impact you deeply.
Let’s understand the core of a photo or a painting for that matter. Human subconsciousness readily sees things in symmetry. Therefore, a symmetrical figurine or view would register faster. Asymmetrical view (in this case a photograph) would also catch attention but with some portions drawing more attention than others.

With the rise of digital photography in the last decade, many photographic purists have lamented the declining use of good old fashioned printed photographs. In fact, digital photography is, by and large, much preferable to the now outdated camera film reel and offers a wide range of benefits that not only include better quality pictures, higher resolution and more options for storage, but also - to the evident delight of many - the option to print!
Historically, the earliest cameras were first developed in the tenth century by a Persian mathematician, but photographic processing and chemical photography didn’t actually come to light until the nineteenth century, when a French inventor came up with the first permanent photograph in 1826. This first photographic print took a whole eight hours to expose and, while traditional photography made long strides in order to reduce the time it took to process photos, it wasn’t until the birth of digital photography that photographers were truly freed of the need to be within close access to processing facilities.
